The Netherlands is undergoing a profound shift in its energy system: the energy transition. More and more households and businesses are installing solar panels, driving electric cars, or switching to heat pumps. At the same time, large solar fields and wind farms are being developed to generate renewable energy.
All of these developments converge in one system: the electricity grid. And in many regions, that grid is already reaching its limits. It must be upgraded, expanded, and made smarter to handle the peaks and fluctuations in demand and supply. This is precisely where Enexis carries its responsibility: ensuring that the underground infrastructure and above-ground substations are ready for the future. Without that foundation, the energy transition cannot move forward.

The Concept
For the energy transition, Enexis needs many new colleagues. A large team of recruiters and marketing managers works every day with a wide range of tools and campaigns to reach this talent. Yet one challenge remained: how do you give candidates, right at the very first stage of the recruitment process, a real sense of what Enexis actually does?
That is why Enexis partnered with GOTOVIAR. Together, we developed a Virtual Reality experience designed to be used right at the start of the recruitment journey, at job fairs and events. Instead of receiving just a flyer, a video, or a short pitch, candidates now put on a VR headset and find themselves standing in the middle of the Enexis world. Within just a few minutes, they gain a realistic and immersive impression of the impact of the work.
Younger audiences in particular, highly visual and eager to quickly grasp what something is really about, experience this as a completely new approach. Where traditional tools often remain at the level of information, VR makes the first encounter personal and unforgettable: an experience that sparks curiosity and motivation.


The Enexis
VR World
Together with Enexis, GOTOVIAR developed a complete Virtual Reality world in which candidates can look around and experience what Enexis’ does. The environment is designed to give, within just a few minutes, a clear picture of Enexis role as a grid operator.
Inside this virtual world, the different elements of the energy system come to life. Candidates see how renewable energy is generated by wind turbines and solar parks and follow the journey of electricity: from the substation, where the voltage is adjusted, through the underground cables and pipelines that deliver energy to homes. To make the experience even more vivid, avatars are present to demonstrate how work on this infrastructure is carried out.
The result is not a distant explanation but an immersive experience that gives candidates the feeling of being right in the middle of it. And that makes all the difference: the impression lingers, long after the event has ended.

VR Videos
In the Enexis VR world, candidates can use an intuitive menu to activate 360° videos. In these, they meet Enexis employees who share their work in their own words. The videos are designed in such a way that, inside the VR headset, it feels as if the employee is speaking directly to the candidate, guiding them step by step through their tasks and story.
A technician demonstrates how cable connections are made in practice, an engineer explains how a substation is reinforced, and an IT specialist shows how digitalization makes the energy grid smarter and more secure. In this way, candidates not only gain a realistic view of what is happening today, but also a glimpse of what their own future role could look like.
The result is a unique combination of virtual immersion and personal storytelling. Candidates feel as if they are already part of Enexis, and it is precisely this impression that lasts. This is not a fleeting introduction but an experience that sparks curiosity and motivation, one they will look back on with enthusiasm.


Deployment
For Enexis, two versions of the VR world have been developed. One is a standalone app, designed specifically for events and career fairs where internet access is often limited or unstable. Here, candidates are guided by a recruiter at the booth, put on a headset, and immediately step into the world of Enexis.
The other is a browser-based version, built with future scalability in mind. This version makes it possible to access the Enexis world outside of events, for example, in schools, classrooms, or even at home, giving candidates an early impression of what Enexis stands for. It also opens the door to community building, where groups can experience the VR world together and engage in live interaction.
